MODERATOR'S CORNER
In the Ateneo de Manila University, the holistic formation of a person is important. This encompasses not only academics and technical skills but leadership and interpersonal skills as well. The development of leadership and interpersonal skills in the classroom is best augmented by actual practice in an organization. This is one of the goals of the Ateneo Chemical Society (ACheS).
ACheS belongs not just to the Ateneo community but to a bigger community of Loyola Heights, of Quezon City, of Metro Manila, of the Philippines. These communities have various problems and concerns that can be solved only by the involvement of members. Some of these concerns are in education, poverty, environment and sustainable development. ACheS has projects that address these.
The Ateneo Department of Chemistry and the Loyola Schools have the same concerns.
The Ateneo Chemical Society and the Ateneo Department of Chemistry can work hand-in-hand in helping out. This way, the strengths of both can result into a better efficiency and a greater impact in terms of results. This has been started and synergism has been achieved in terms of student recruitment (education). During the course of undertaking the projects, student leadership and interpersonal skills are also nurtured and honed.
With the partnership, we will have small and big successes. Hopefully, these successes can inspire others to succeed and that these combined successes can solve the minor and major problems that Filipinos have.
